Yesterday one of my daughters asked me to come and mend her leaking sink. Her husband is a nice lad but a bit cack handed. So I go down there and have to take off layers of gunk that he had wrapped round all the joints, nightmare, took me ages, took of the joint cleaned it all up reinstalled properly, job done. Today am I suffering, my hands are swollen and that hot I could boil an egg on them. My knees did not want to get out of bed and my feet are that swollen its either socks or slippers and my back * .Thing is it was only a small job took an hour, and I'm useless again, I get so annoyed at this disease. I have a neighbour that told me her husband is a slave to arthritis, I asked her what treatment he was on and was he at our local rheumy hospital Oh no she says once he's got his brew he's ok ! yea right.

I understand how it feels John. Just the silliest things can set it off. I tore up a small cardboard box yesterday to put in the paper bin and my left wrist feels like it is broken today. You know the format though - you must rest today (by the sound of it you don't have much choice ). Hope it doesn't take too long for things to settle down again - and that your daughter appreciates what you did. Julie

You're not useless at all John... imagine what would have happened if you'd not sorted the sink. I know you're paying for it today and this disease makes you feel unable but you still helped your daughter.. you did something that your son in law couldn't. I know its sometimes hard to see and the strengths you had before may now seem like weaknesses... truth is, they've just changed, and it takes time to find out what they are... xx Helly x Celebrating 10yrs of National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society Doing a Tandem Skydive - May 2011 - All Sponsorship Welcome - www.justgiving.com/helencopeland Read my blog - Helly Copeland

Well done for getting it done John! At least your daughter is able to call on you for help, even though you have to rest the next day.

You`re paying for it today John - but you have the satisfaction of fixing it and being really useful. You got the job done, so give youself a pat on the back & take things easy until you feel better. Kathleen x PS Are you any good with leaky rooves........................................?

Well done, John. I know you're paying for it now, but what a great feeling of satisfaction it must have given you to be able to do that for your daughter. I think Helly made a good point - we must accept not that we've lost strengths, but that they've changed (I'm not sure what to, but I'll give it some thought ) Anthea

You're just doing what any father would want to do for his children, I hope your son in law appreciates it.
I hope your joints recover very soon.
